Welcome to the start of our discussion for season 2! Sorry for the delay in getting the discussion start posted. Look for a poll/discussion later this week about the posting days, how the two-episode a week format is going, and for a call for volunteer discussion leaders with details about posing topics and questions.

And now, on to 2.1: When She Was Bad:

Cordelia: What an ordeal. And you know what the worst part is?
Jenny: What?
Cordelia: It stays with you forever. No matter what they tell you, none of that rust and blood and grime comes out. I mean, you can dry clean till judgment day, you are living with those stains.
Jenny: Yeah that's the worst part of being hung upside down by a vampire who wants to slit your throat: the stains.
Cordelia: I hear ya!

Below the cut you'll find a series of topics that we might take up as we talk about episode 1.12: Prophecy Girl. All of the prompts and questions are there to spark discussion. If they're useful or interesting to you, go ahead and respond to any aspect of them.

But please feel free to bring up anything else that interests you in our conversations about this episode, and definitely chime in on any thread/comment to get into a discussion already in progress. You can bring in earlier or later episodes, or any topic at all, as long as it somehow relates to the episode under discussion.

Welcome to our Saturday discussion! Remember, right now the community is on a two-episode-a-week viewing/discussion schedule, and that our next discussion day is on Wednesday with the start of s2, "When She Was Bad"

Now on to the season finale of s1, "Prophecy Girl":

Buffy: So that's it, huh? I remember the drill. One Slayer dies, next one's called! Wonder who she is. Will you train her? Or will they send someone else? ... They say how he's gonna kill me? Do you think it'll hurt?

Welcome to our Wednesday discussion! Remember, right now the community is on a two-episode-a-week viewing/discussion schedule, and that our next discussion day is on Saturday with the season's finale, Prophecy Girl.

Now on to the episode otherwise known as "The Invisible Girl":

Buffy: So you've come to *me* for help.
Cordelia: Because you're always around when all this weird stuff is happening. And I know you're very strong, and you've got all those weapons... I was kind of hoping you were in a gang.

Willow: So, why is this happening?
Giles: Billy.
Xander: Well, that explanation was shorter than usual. (to Willow) It's Billy! (to Giles) Who's Billy?
Giles: He's a boy in the local hospital. He was beaten. He's in a coma. Somehow I think he's crossed over from the nightmare world he's trapped in.
Xander: And he brought the nightmare world with him. Thanks a bunch, Billy.

There are things I will not tolerate: students loitering on campus after school, horrible murders with hearts being removed. And also smoking.

Hey all! Welcome (or welcome back) to our episode-by-episode discussion of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

What you'll find below the cut is a series of topics that we might take up as we talk about this episode. All of the prompts and questions are there to spark discussion. Hello! This community has been quiet for a long while, but I recently realized that I missed discussing BtVS canon episodes in this setting. So I'm re-starting our episode-by-episode posts and discussions. Please feel free to jump in to each post and tell us your thoughts on the storyline, setting, actors' performances, broader themes, overall narrative arcs -- whatever grabs your interest. Remember, squee and analysis are both absolutely welcome.

Right now, I think a schedule of two-episodes a week could work out nicely. The original schedule was one episode a week, and at times that seemed to make commenting/interest lose momentum. At the moment, the likely candidates for discussion days are Wednesday and Saturday, so I hope we'll be able to jump-start our confabs this coming Wednesday, May 3rd.

Rather than beginning all over, we'll pick up from where community discussion left off. Because we stopped with "I Robot, You Jane", the next episode up for discussion will be 1 x 09, "The Puppet Show".

However, if you want to start watching episodes prior to that for s1, let me know, and we'll do a simultaneous new post about episode on the docket plus reminder to check out a particular earlier ep (essentially directing people to and expanding the community's earlier discussion of that episode).

Though I've pretty much given up my search for a co-moderator, I'd definitely welcome anyone interested to volunteer to be a guest-moderator/discussion leader. At some point, I'll set up a post where you can comment to express interest in this.

But for now, go watch "The Puppet Show," tell your friends that episodic_buffy is re-starting, and get your Buffyverse discussion on. Yay!

Ms. Calendar: You think the realm of the mystical is limited to ancient texts and relics? That bad old science made the magic go away? The divine exists in cyberspace same as out here.
Giles: Are you a witch?
Ms. Calendar: I don't have that kind of power. 'Technopagan' is the term.

Sorry this didn't go up last night. But yay, new episode discussion! Remember, the prompts and questions are there to spark discussion. Respond to them only as far as they are useful to you as you make observations and take on positions in regards to the episode. Any topic, as long as it relates to the episode under discussion, is fair game.

Xander:  Angel's a vampire. You're a Slayer. I think it's obvious what you have to do.
